Disabled young footballers are celebrating securing a donation from a North Tyneside construction company.

South Bay Civil Engineering made a donation to the Magpiess’ official charity Newcastle United Foundation in order to help fund a flagship football project for children and young people with disabilities, Football for All.

A total of 150 disabled young footballers play football every week after school, representing Newcastle United in a number of teams including Down’s Syndrome, Wheel Chair Football, visually impaired and cerebral palsy teams.

Gill Green, from South Bay Civil Engineering, said: “We were blown away after visiting the visually impaired session.

“The course provides vital support for children with disabilities. The Football For All project is a great chance for children to play football on a regular basis, with players who have similar disabilities.”

“It was fantastic to see the children enjoying themselves and hear how the group have developed in confidence and skill. We are proud to help fund such courses provided by the Foundation.”

Kate Bradley, head of the Foundation, added: “We are delighted to receive this donation from South Bay Civil Engineering.

“Thanks to this funding even more disabled children can play football in the region without worrying about additional barriers such as transport, venue hire, kit and equipment.”
