A three-day beer festival is aiming to get the funds flowing for a local rugby club.

More than 60 beers from 25 breweries will be at the event being held at Rockcliff Rugby Club from Thursday, May 15, to Saturday, May 17.

The event is being held to raise money to buy new strips for the club’s junior squads as well as repair the roof of the clubhouse, with an estimated repair bill at £15,000.

It is the first fundraising event at the club and organisers say the emphasis is on local breweries.

The event will take place at the clubhouse in Lovaine Avenue from 4pm to 11pm on Thursday and Friday, and noon to midnight on Saturday.

Musicians will be performing on the first two days while a rugby festival featuring local teams and a touring side from Manchester will take place on the Saturday.

Club president Scott Carruthers said: “We’re looking to develop the youth section. We have the largest youth section in the north of England and they all need new shirts at the start of the season.

“We’re also looking to raise £15,000 for a new roof.”

Tickets cost £10 – which includes free beer tokens and a commemorative glass – and are available on the door.
