REFERENDUM: No betrayal of young

Have your say

John David Sinnett (News Guardian, July 7) quotes from his facebook page. Let me quote from mine too “Can I remind many of my dear friends that the referendum is not the ‘best of three’.”

We have referendums and elections for a reason, which is that they are a peaceful means of settling our disputes and differences.

If people who lose the argument start questioning the result and agitate to reverse it, then the resolution of our differences are likely over time to become less peaceful, and in violence only the weak suffer.

Of course, people will not overnight change their sincerely held convictions and they are entitled to continue the argument, but they should respect the result and not moan and cavil.

There has been an unattractive level of snobbishness towards those who voted ‘leave’ by many in the ‘remain’ camp.

Do I feel that I betrayed my country or my young relatives and millions like them by voting ‘leave’.

Not a bit of it. I did it for them, to hand back to them their country, which I have no doubt they will make great again and they will be thankful to those of us who did when it is their turn to run the show.
