WORK has begun on resurfacing a major road in the borough.
North Tyneside Council, in partnership with Tarmac, has begun resurfacing around 500 metres of Whitley Road in Benton, from Grange Avenue to Carlton Road, incorporating the Station Road junction.
During non-holiday periods, Whitley Road carries around 24,000 vehicles each day, resulting in the maintenance work taking place during the school holidays, with the majority being in the evening or overnight.
Whitley Road will remain open during the work, however, there will be lane closures and temporary traffic lights.
The programme of work is currently taking place this week until Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm, and will start up again next Tuesday and will be in place until Friday from 8pm to 6am.
