Teenagers diced with death on Tuesday night as they played chicken with monster storm waves in the borough.

Horrified onlookers watched as two young men dared to stand under crashing 50ft waves as storms lashed the north east coast.

Pictures taken in Cullercoats, Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, at around 7pm show the daredevils being covered in a massive wall of water as the waves break over the promenade.

Photographer Will Walker captured the images of youngsters as they clung to railings and let the waves topple over them, risking being dragged out to sea.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “The RNLI would encourage people to be aware of their own safety and consider the environment and potential dangers of wave dodging.

“The sea can be unpredictable and extremely powerful and taking part in such activities could put your life at risk.”
