ARMED robbers held up a shop in North Tyneside this morning.
Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at 9.50am on Thursday, December 8, at the One Stop store in South View in Hazlerigg.
Three men wearing balaclavas and armed with a crowbar and what was believed to be a handgun went into the shop and demanded cash.
Two members of staff were hit across the face by the hands of the offenders, they suffered minor injuries to their faces and were shocked, but did not need an ambulance.
The robbers left with an unknown quantity of cash in £1 coins and left the scene in a silver coloured Peugeot 406 Rapier, driven by a fourth person and made off towards Wideopen. The Peugeot was reported as stolen yesterday from Shiremoor in North Tyneside.
The car was found burnt out a short time later at approximately 10.20am at the Gosforth Park Koi and Aqua Centre.
It is believed the robbers then transferred into another vehicle, a blue coloured flat-bed van, seen driving at speed travelling towards Peter Barratt’s Garden centre.
Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police. Also anyone who saw the Peugeot Rapier car being driven in the Hazlerigg area earlier today.
