A young woman is gearing up to raise money for charity in memory of a dear friend.

Rachel Dodds died at her home in Ellington, on Tuesday, May 21, just 17 days after she was diagnosed with cancer, aged 29.

Now Lauren Barrett, a pharmacy technician at Boots in Park View Shopping Centre, Whitley Bay, will be running in Rachel’s memory while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 24-year-old will run 16 miles on Friday, August 16, from the Boots store in Blyth to the store in North Shields, followed by the Great North Run on Sunday, September 15.

Lauren, of Ashington, has already raised over £2,900.

She said: “A lot of people have said I’m really inspiring, but it is actually Rachel who is the inspiration.

“She was loved by so many people.”
