Pupils at a North Tyneside school have planted a thousand tulip bulbs to brighten up the area around their school.
Children from John Spence Community High wanted to improve the public space near to the well-used cycle path running alongside the school which was recently completed.
The bulbs and garden tools were provided by Sustrans, who were partners in the cycle safety scheme improvements.
Other partners in the project, North Tyneside Council, will also be donating ten trees later this month.
Two teams of 50 pupils were joined by Sustrans staff and volunteers to plant the bulbs, which will flower next spring.
Bryn Dowson, Sustrans north east regional director, said: “We’d like to thank the school and the children for giving their time and for showing such a keen interest in their local environment.”
