Jubilant children and teachers are celebrating after receiving an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted inspection.

Valley Gardens Middle School has been given the top rating following an inspection in June.

Headteacher Michael Homer said: “We are delighted with the outstanding outcomes of our latest Ofsted inspection.

“This is the culmination of several years work and preparation by the pupils, staff and governors of the school.”

“In addition I would like to thank all those parents and carers who suport the school during the process,” he added.

Inspectors praised the students’ behaviour and said by the time students leave, attainment is significantly above the national level.

The report noted the achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of the pupils, and leadership and management, were all outstanding.

“Teaching is outstanding. Teachers have high expectations and many lessons are innovative in their approach,” said the report.

“Students receive an outstanding education at Valley Gardens Middle School.

“Students’ oustanding behaviour has a highly positive impact on their learning.”

In the previous inspection in June 2009, the school had been graded as good.
