Santa Claus was the star attraction as residents joined traders to celebrate Christmas at Whitley Lodge shopping centre.
Queues built up at Santa’s grotto and there were free gifts and face painting for the children.
Choirs from local churches – St Mary the Virgin, Whitley Lodge Baptist and St John’s Methodist – sang carols and shoppers were entertained by music from an old style street organ.
‘Christmas @ The Lodge’ was organised by Whitley Lodge Community Spirit.
Canon Sue Hart, minister at St Mary’s, who chairs Community Spirit, said: “We are grateful for all the support we have received during the year.
“They have helped make this a fantastic Christmas and we want to say a big thank you to everyone.’’
The Christmas raffle was drawn and all the proceeds will go towards funding future improvements and community events.
Fundraising by Community Spirit, with the support of North Tyneside Council, helped make this year’s Christmas lights at the Lodge bigger and better than ever.
