Families will join Santa for festive fun as traders at Whitley Lodge shopping centre celebrate Christmas.

Big crowds are expected for Christmas @ The Lodge, organised by Whitley Lodge Community Spirit, on Saturday, December 20.

The event starts at 11am and features Santa’s grotto while choirs from local churches – St Mary the Virgin, Whitley Lodge Baptist and St John’s Methodist – will sing carols at 11am, noon and 1pm.

There will also be the draw for the annual Christmas raffle.

Proceeds will help fund the work of Community Spirit, a not-for-profit group including schools, traders and churches, supported by North Tyneside Council.

Community Spirit funds a series of events and attractions including the annual summer fair. New planting boxes have just been installed and an information board will soon be erected.

Events manager and business owner, John Evans, said: “I hope residents will visit us on Saturday and enjoy the Christmas spirit.

“We are delighted the local churches have agreed to sing and Santa will be visiting to get last minute requests from boys and girls on his ‘nice’ list.’’

Canon Sue Hart, minister at St Mary’s, who chairs Community Spirit, said: “We have tried to make this the best Christmas yet at Whitley Lodge and I would like to thank everyone for their support.

“We hope people will come to see Santa, join in the carols, and enjoy Christmas at the Lodge.”
