Retailers in Whitley Bay are invited to attend the town’s next Shopwatch meeting.
Shop staff are invited to come along to Whitley Bay Police Station, Laburnum Avenue, on Thursday, November 27, at 11am to get an update on how police are tackling shop thefts.
Officers will also discuss the latest crime prevention initiatives and talk to shop staff about Operation Soundwave, which focuses on volume crime including shoplifting.
At this meeting police will also share information about use of fraudulent banknotes which have been circulated in the North Tyneside area.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon May said: “Local retailers across North Tyneside can access the Bank of England’s Banknotes app which is an interactive touch screen guide for checking banknotes. It enables users to view all current Bank of England banknotes and their security features.
“This free to download app is aimed at people who frequently use banknotes, and at retailers and businesses. It offers detailed images of all current Bank of England banknotes together with a backlight function and viewing under ultra-violet (UV) light.”
Anyone interested is asked to contact the neighbourhood policing team on 101.
