A teenager is aiming to reach new heights after being called up to represent her country.
Sidonie Graham is celebrating after being selected for the Great Britain Junior Bouldering team and will climb in events in Bulgaria and France this summer.
The 15-year-old has only been climbing for three years yet was first in both the BMC YCS in 2011 and Scottish Bouldering (2012) events.
She is currently first in the British Junior Bouldering Championships with only one round left in August, and she has one eye on climbing being made an Olympic sport from 2020 onwards if it gets approval from the IOC.
Sidonie, a Year 10 pupil at the King’s School in Tynemouth, said: “I enjoyed gymnastics before taking up climbing through a friend three years ago.
“Climbing has improved my strength, endurance, flexibility and co-ordination.
“I love the competition and problem solving too because every climb presents a different challenge.
“Competing in the Olympics one day would be fantastic.”
Sidonie trains at Climb Newcastle with coach Stuart Campbell and is sponsored by Scarpa.
