A company has been honoured for its work to support the health and wellbeing of staff.

Capita’s North Tyneside office has been awarded a Silver North East Better Health at Work Award.

The North East Better Health at Work Award is delivered by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Capita’s activities in 2015 included health relative initiatives such as free men’s health checks, on-site flu jabs, free Pilates sessions; encouraging physical exercise; and developing a healthy eating policy.

Business director Richard Carmichael said: “This is great news and demonstrates that the health and wellbeing of our employees is a top priority. However, we’re not complacent and have already committed to achieving a gold level award.”

Maureen Turner, health improvement practitioner specialist for workplaces at the Trust, said: “Capita has worked really hard to achieve their Silver level Award and demonstrated a real commitment to embedding a healthy culture in the workplace.”

“It’s fantastic that they have seen the benefits of doing so – both organisationally, with a reduction in sickness absence, and for individuals whose health and wellbeing both in and out of the workplace is being improved.”
