A figure skater from North Tyneside has been selected to represent Great Britain in her first international competition.

Amy Smith, from Whitley Bay, has been chosen to compete in the Golden Bear competition in Croatia this November.

The 14-year-old started figure skating at the age of nice at Whitley Bay ice rink, and quickly progressed.

Amy’s coach, David Richardson, said: “Amy works extremely hard and thankfully her work has been rewarded with this international event.

“It is an honour for Amy to be selected to represent GB in Croatia, but sadly the event is self-funded.

“With the experience gained from such an event it would be a waste to miss this opportunity due to lack of funds.”
