WITH Sport Relief just around the corner, most of us will be stretching, straining and warming up so we’re ready to run that all important mile, raising money for the charity along the way.
A ‘mile’ doesn’t sound too long and scores of people are now choosing to do their mile in increasingly different and unique ways, including some who’re doing it on space hoppers and skateboards.
But what about ice skating?
Well, NewsGuardianTV’s been down to Whitley Bay ice rink to watch as staff from Sainsburys stores from across the north east pulled on their skates and took to the ice to complete their ‘mile’.
There was a huge mix of abilities on show too, with some skaters having never done it before, whilst others flew round the rink in record time.
And, we spoke to store manager Graham Stewart about why gliding around the rink was chosen ahead of getting out and pounding the pavement...
