A writer is hoping to spark fun with families through a creative project.

Noreen Rees received a Small Sparks award from Whitley Bay Big Local to enable families to create sand dragons on Whitley Bay beach.

The session will run near Watts Slope on Tuesday, from noon to 4pm.

Pictures will be displayed in the Big Local shop and on its website.

Ms Rees said: “I’m hoping that families will come together to use their creative energies to make something really imaginative, and have lots of fun doing it. Everyone has an idea what a dragon looks like, but they’re mythical creatures so there’s no right or wrong way to depict them.”

Should it rain, the event will take place on Wednesday.
