A new Specsavers store is backing this year’s Red Nose Day.

The store at Killingworth shopping centre is encouraging customers to pop in and buy a pair of fun glasses to support Red Nose Day on Friday.

Mayor Norma Redfearn has backed the initiative, and was among the first to try out the £2 glasses.

The glasses feature a pair of waving hands and are sure to make people smile, supporting Comic Relief’s 2017 theme of ‘make your laugh matter.’

The cheerful specs are selling well at the new store and staff at Killingworth are encouraging customers to make their purchase before stocks run out – and then to take a ‘selfie’ wearing their fun frames, posting it on social media using the hashtag #giveusawave.

Ged Crulley, store director, said: “As a new store we are thoroughly enjoying being part of the Killingworth community via our Red Nose Day fundraising.

“The store was officially opened in February by the Norma Redfearn, the Elected Mayor, and she was delighted to join in the fun, donning her novelty specs in support for the work Comic Relief does to improve the lives of so many vulnerable people in the UK and around the world.”
