Young bookworms celebrated their love of reading with a variety of activities in their school library.
Students and teachers at John Spence Community High School, in North Shields, marked their love of literature as part of the World Book Day celebrations.
The library was decked out in book-cover-bunting while pupils enjoyed visits from recognised literary heroes.

Using a selection of items available to them, and using Simon Armitage’s ‘About His Person’, the youngsters wrote their own poems, ranging from multiple-stanza love poems and limericks to the simple and light-hearted.
After lunch students took part in a ‘Book Speed Dating Extravaganza’ where, accompanied by a playlist of book themed songs, they were given 90-seconds to tell their opposite speed-dater why he or she should read their favourite book.
