A NORTH Tyneside teenager beat more than 100 other youngsters to win a Northumberland Wildlife Trust photography competition.

Daniel McGibbon, 16, of Briar Avenue in Whitley Bay, came top of the category for teenagers in the charity’s 27th annual contest.

His winning shot of a spider on barbed wire was taken at the wetland reserve opposite St Mary’s Island.

Daniel, a Whitley Bay High School pupil, won third place in the competition in 2010 for his photo of a fly.

Trust chief executive Mike Pratt said: “It’s great to see Daniel progress from third to first place with his fabulous photo of a spider.

“Who knows, one day he may be a great wildlife photographer like our patron, Chris Packham, who photographs wildlife throughout the world.”
