Work has begun to ensure an annual gardening event continues to blossom as it heads into a ninth year.
A team of volunteers have started looking ahead ten months to North Tyneside’s popular produce and craft show.
Preparations are under way for the event next September with the search beginning to secure sponsorship for the event and individual prizes.
Coun Tommy Mulvenna, deputy chairman of North Tyneside Council, has got the ball rolling with a £100 donation, and has challenged the volunteer organisers to use that as a fundraising springboard.
The borough has seen an annual show for the last eight years, with the North Tyneside Flower, Vegetable and Crafts Show returning to its traditional venue of The Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields next year.
Coun Mulvenna said: “Our annual horticultural show has proved extremely popular over the years and helps promote fresh food and healthy living in the borough.
“In 2013 it attracted over 500 visitors and 91 exhibitors showcasing amazing horticultural and craft talents; and we’re hoping that sponsors will come forward to help make next year’s event even better.”
Lee Kirkbride, secretary of the organising committee, said: “Next year marks the start of a new era for the show and we’re hoping that a variety of different organisations, or individuals, will get behind it by being a sponsor.”
Sponsorship packages range from single prize categories up to the show as a whole.
