Deaf people of all ages came together for a special sports festival in the borough.

North Tyneside Disability Forum held the Deaf Sports Festival at John Spence Community High School.

The event marked 1,000 days until the next Deaflympics, due to be held in Turkey in 2017.

During the day there was the chance for deaf people of all ages to take part in sports including football, basketball, badminton, athletics and a treasure hunt.

The day was supported by Newcastle United Foundation, Sport North Tyneside, Smile Through Sport and was made possible by the fundraising efforts of Holly Thompson.

At the close of the day all contestants were presented with a certificate from two Deaflympians, Barry Campbell and Brian Babb, who had travelled from Belfast especially for the day to share their experiences with young deaf people.
