ANOTHER dream has come true and another opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in staging part of The Mouth of the Tyne Festival in Tynemouth Station.
I had always dreamed that the station would eventually take its place alongside the other important venues in North Tyneside and others within the region, and this year it did.
Oh what a beautiful venue it has become now that the enormous, fantastic, fairy-like, sparkling canopy has been completed – truly the Crystal Palace of the north east.
The station is the perfect setting for so many kinds of events – from the intoxicating rhythms of Latin America countries, enhanced on this occasion by the wonderful banner-like structures created for the Vamos Festival (I do hope that Vamos can be part of our festival next year) to the exciting steel band music provided by our own local bands.
Let us hope that there will be many, many more both large and small events of various kinds held in the station like the Heritage Skills Festival earlier this year, to possibly trade shows like cycling and camping shows, to classical concerts and jazz and everything in between.
And always remember that ‘Whatever the weather you won’t get wet, for it is like an outdoor venue, yet undercover’.
