SUPERMARKET staff will be packing customers’ bags to raise money for charity this weekend.
Staff and volunteers at Sainsbury’s in West Monkseaton will be packing all day Saturday in aid of New Prospects, a charity for people with learning disabilities.
The money will go towards a range of products, including sensors to alert carers and aids to ensure that vulnerable people do not forget to turn off gas cookers and taps.
In the last year, the store has raised £4,500 for the charity and staff are confident of reaching their £5,000 target by the end of June.
Alison Ward, public relations ambassador for the store, said: “We wanted to help a charity that was at the heart of the local community here in Whitley Bay and you can’t get more local than New Prospects.
“It is a fantastic charity and one that has really engaged with us and our fundraising activities.”
The store is also holding a jubilee party on Friday, June 1, also in aid of New Prospects.
