WHAT A difference a week makes.
The warm weather and glorious sunshine of last week seemed a million miles away on Tuesday when gale-force winds and heavy rain hit North Tyneside.
At both Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, large waves crashed into the beaches and cliffs as the storm conditions battered the coastline which only seven days ago saw people eating ice creams and sunbathing.
Part of the road along the promenade in Whitley Bay had to be temporarily closed as concerns were raised that scaffolding on the front of a building was in danger of collapsing due to the severity of the high winds.
With more heavy rain and low temperatures predicted for the next few days, it could be a while before anyone feels like we are into spring.
NewsGuardianTV headed along the coast to take in the weather and to find out just how bad it was.
