Volunteers ensuring revellers are all right on a night out and get home safely are preparing for one of their busiest times of the year.
Whitley Bay Street Pastors hand out foil blankets and water to people enjoying a night out in the town and Tynemouth, also making sure they get home safely. And over the Easter weekend they will be on hand at the Spanish City fair.
In the last year, Street Pastors have carried out 262 patrols, removed 1,573 glass bottles from the streets, handed out 561 foil blankets and 688 bottles of water.
As well as street patrols, they have operated on bikes in the summer and the Metro system in the winter.
Chris Lincoln, Street Pastor co-ordinator, said: “It’s been another busy year.
“Whitley Bay is now busier on a Saturday night than last year, which brings extra challenges at 3am.
“The team has come across many vulnerable people and has saved many situations from deteriorating further.
“2016 will see us also expand into Wallsend.”
Street Pastors are recruiting new volunteers to join the team.
