A WHITLEY Bay teenager wowed the judges in a singing competition at the weekend to get the chance to record a single and star in a video.
Thirteen-year-old Shauna Gallon entered the Teenage Kicks 2 event, which raises funds and awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and saw off stiff competition from hundreds of youngsters throughout across the north east to take the top prize.
It was Shauna’s performance of Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah which won her the judges’ decision, having already sang songs by Alicia Keys and Celine Dion to secure a place in the final.
Martin O’Nions, one of the event organisers, said: “Shauna was just stunning.
“Her voice for a 13-year-old was amazing and she sang big songs.
“All ten finalists were phenomenal but the judges just thought that she had something extra.”
The all-day event was held on Sunday at Martha’s Bar in Newcastle, with Jeri-Marie Sumner, Jon Corbett, Matt Healey, Alfie Joey and Lee-Ann Robothan the judges.
The St Thomas More High School pupil will now go on to record a single at Notes Studios, although it has not yet to be decided whether it will be a cover or an original track.
Part of the prize was also to shoot a video for the single.
Martin added: “It was a great day for everyone, the finalists were brilliant.
“We haven’t counted all the money yet but we hope to have at least matched last year’s total of £2,000.”
