Youngsters were able to get up close and personal with science after one student won a competition.

Year 6 pupils at Valley Gardens Middle School in Whitley Bay spent a day learning from Sublime Science after Matthew Savidis won first prize in a poster competition run by Vision for Education.

Kevin Blakemore, head of science at the school and who organised the competition entries, said it was about finding practical applications for the youngsters’ science learning.

Liam Roberts, manager at Vision for Education, visited the school to see the workshops in progress, adding he was delighted with the high standard of poster entries, in particular Matthew’s scientific knowledge and the quality of his artwork.
