A CHILDREN’S play area is now open on Sundays.
Shiremoor Adventure Playground in Brenkley Avenue opened last year and has become popular with children with disabilities and additional needs.
The new sessions take place from 12.30pm and 4.30pm, with the facility staffed by experienced play workers.
The area offers a wide range of accessible outdoor adventure play equipment and opportunities including broad walkways, climbing towers and bridges, a basket swing, a wide slide, sand play and tunnels.
It also features an accessible multi-use games area and accessible changing and toilet facility.
The playground is open to children and young people of all ages with disabilities or additional needs, while their brothers and sisters are welcome too although children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
Coun Glynis Barrie, cabinet member for community services, said: “The Shiremoor Adventure Playground is a wonderful and inspiring place, and was specially designed and built to be accessible for children of all abilities.
“I’m delighted we can now offer these Sunday sessions so that even more young people can enjoy the facility.”
