WET weather and a lack of waves were not enough to deter surfers from taking part in a seaside fancy-dress competition at the weekend.
The event raised £450 for the Breast Cancer Campaign as around 300 people turned out to watch participants take to the sea off Tynemouth Longsands on Saturday.
The fancy-dress competition saw smurfs, cavewomen, butchers and vampires take to their boards, much to the crowd’s delight.
Organiser Danny Allott said: “It was absolutely brilliant. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.
“There were no waves, so we had to be a bit inventive, and we organised games on the beach including an obstacle course, a sack race and a paddle race.”
