Surprised by vote for allowances

Knowing that the government grant was to be reduced for the 2015-16 financial year, it was surprising that North Tyneside Council’s members voted to increase their expenses allowances, adding to the shortfall of government funding.

I suppose at the heart of the decision was the news that every person would be £142 worse off.

I hope the councillors know the only decent way to vote for an increase is if the council has reserve funds available, or the council borrowing for 2015-16 financial year is nil.
