A NEW partnership has pledged to ensure residents are well prepared for the impact of government welfare reform changes.
The task group was put together after North Tyneside Council agreed its proposals for a new Council Tax Support Scheme to replace the national scheme that will end in April.
And at their first meeting they agreed to work together to put appropriate measures in place to support people affected by the raft of changes.
The key principals are:-
n maximise the opportunities to get working age people back into employment;
n ensure there is communication to those affected by the reforms and the people in the frontline;
n ensure a clear understanding of the implications of the reforms and the timescales;
n ensure all partners identify available funds and programmes of support.
The group is made up of public, private and voluntary organisations.
It will now work on developing a borough-wide welfare reform action plan, identifying gaps and recommending responses.
