COMPETITORS made a splash at a borough swimming pool as they helped raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

A water Olympics-style event was held at Tynemouth Pool by the Sandra Turney Swim School in aid of the Sick Children’s Trust, set up to provide free accommodation for families of children ill in hospital.

The teams, along with spectators, helped raise £740 for the charity.

Teams took part in relays, water polo, a tug of war and an obstacle course, with staff from Barclays in Gosforth emerging as overall winners.

Event organiser Sandra Hastings said: “Everyone involved had a great time, and I am thrilled at the amount we raised.”
