Touch rugby teams from around the North are heading to North Shields for a special tournament this weekend.

Percy Park Pirates Touch (Rugby) Club are hosting the Touch Northern Cup on Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

A total of ten teams are taking part – three from Newcastle, five from Yorkshire and two from the North West.

It is the second cup being held and first of two planned this year.

A spokesman said: “Our aim is to offer a competition to northern touch clubs to help them develop their playing standard in a friendly but competitive environment.”

“A few of our teams are relatively new to touch, only starting up last year, so this is a great opportunity for them to gain some tournament experience.”
