A teenager has died after being hit by a car.
An 18-year-old male was hit by a Renault Megane on the A193 The Links in Whitley Bay.
The pedestrian was near the zebra crossing just south of the Briardene pub, near the junction with Western Way, when he was hit by the car at 9.42pm on Sunday.
Emergency services attended, including police and ambulance staff, but sadly the injured pedestrian later died from his injuries.
The road was closed for six-and-a-half hours to enable the scene to be examined by officers.
Two men have been arrested in relation to this incident and remain in police custody helping police with their enquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses, specifically they would like to speak to any pedestrians or vehicle passengers who were in the area and may have witnessed the collision.
Police would also ask any residents who have CCTV that may have recorded the collision or the circumstances leading up to the collision to contact police.
