Witnesses are being sought following the death of a man near Whitley Bay Metro Station.
Two teenagers were arrested and bailed following an incident at the station on Friday night.
Lee Devlin, 40, of Charles Avenue, Whitley Bay, was found unconscious with head injuries in Waterford Crescent just before 11pm.
He was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital but died a short time later.
Officers are continuing to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.
A police spokesperson said; “Mr Devlin travelled by metro from Howdon on Friday evening and arrived at Whitley Bay Metro station at 9.45pm.
“It is believed he was then outside the metro station for a short time.
“Officers are asking for help from the public to piece together what happened after 9.45pm and when he was found with injuries just before 11pm.”
A post mortem examination has been carried out and the results are inconclusive.
Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
