Two teenagers took on a charity challenge to raise money for a worthy cause.

Thirteen-year-olds Phoebe Burrough and Izzie Thompson, from Whitley Bay, raised money for the oncology day unit at North Tyneside Hospital as it is caring for Phoene’s grandparents.

The pair walked ten miles from Whitley Bay to Newcastle in August in specially made T-shirts and colourful wigs.

The walk took four hours to complete and the duo raised a total of £613, which they handed over this week.

Phoebe’s mum Rachel said: “The money raised will go towards improving the garden and outdoor space for patients and their families at the day unit.

“The girls were very grateful for the generosity of everyone who sponsored them.

“Their family and friends are very proud of the girls’ achievement.”
