Ten artists to display work in empty town shop

AN EMPTY shop is once again being used for an art exhibition.

The former X-Catalogue shop in Park View shopping centre, Whitley Bay, is currently displaying work by ten local artists.

The exhibition – ‘Northern Mix’, which runs until Sunday, March 20 – includes artists Linda Marriott, Saira Ashra, Iris Houghton, Mike Finlay, Sherrie Bance, Lorah Pierre, David Mills, Lyndsey Anderson, Jennifer Fields, Lucy Harris and Eddy Hardy.

Eddy said: “This is an amazing space and lends itself so well to art displays during the time it is between retailers.

“There’s plenty of wall space for hanging paintings, floor space for sculptures and installations, and high visibility because of the huge windows.

“Much of the work on display will be for sale and all artists are available for commissions.”

Shoppers and art lovers can visit the exhibition between 10am and 3pm until March 20.

Tony Wilson, of the centre, said: “We are delighted to welcome another exhibition, and expect a lot of interest in the show.

“It brightens up the entrance to the centre and can be enjoyed by retailers and shoppers alike.”

“The landlords here have been generous enough to donate the shop unit until another retailer is found, and we have found an imaginative way of using the space by showing art in the unit for the time being.”

Full details of shows will be available on the centre website www.parkviewshoppingcentre.co.uk
