Only four births a week at Rake Lane Maternity Unit? (News Guardian, March 27).
Women often have had no choice but to go elsewhere: any indication that the birth may not be achieved ‘naturally’, or of complications, and you can’t be accommodated.
The unit has been considerably reduced in recent years to the busy place it once was.
It reflects the over-managed and over-monitored state of pregnancy and birth today, and is also no doubt part of the NHS ‘grand plan’: now it’s going to be (a considerable way) ‘over there’ too.
