Three GP practices in North Tyneside are to open during the festive season.
As part of a trial led by NHS North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group to improve NHS access over the festive season, some GP practices will be open over Christmas and New Year.
Monkseaton Medical Centre in Whitley Bay, Portugal Place Health Centre in Wallsend and Priory Medical Group in North Shields will be open on Boxing Day, Saturday, December 27, and Sunday, December 28, from 9am to 5pm.
Anyone who needs to visit a GP during these times and are a resident in North Tyneside, can walk-in to one of the three GP practices or call NHS 111 to book an appointment.
Dr Martin Wright, medical director of NHS North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We’ve launched a trial to improve access to NHS services over the Christmas period if you need to visit your GP or pharmacy.
“But please don’t forget, if you’re feeling unwell during the festive season, there is still lots you can do by looking after yourself first.
“Most normally healthy people with a winter illness do not need to see their GP, they do not need to attend A&E and absolutely do not need to call 999.
“Colds, sore throats, headaches, hangovers, upset stomachs, coughs, aches, pains, and winter vomiting should all be treated at home or with the advice of your local pharmacist, with pain killers, rest and plenty of fluids.
“If someone has an injury or ailment which is not an emergency, they can call NHS 111, or seek help from their GP, pharmacist or local walk-in or urgent centre.”
