THREE young cyclists who took part in the Great North Bike Ride raised more than £400 for the RNIB.

Jonathan Shepherd, Sam Patterson and Thomas Dexter rode from Seahouses to Tynemouth in what was their first organised ride.

Despite two punctures and one unscheduled dismount, all three completed the 57-mile course in just over three hours.

The ride was particularly challenging as all three were using fixed gear bikes, which meant no assistance on the climbs and no free-wheeling on the descents, but is was deemed a success, and they are already planning a Coast to Coast ride before the end of the year.
