A Whitley Bay-based charity has donated a host of toys to a women’s refuge in the borough.

The Angels of the North began their seasonal round of presentations and donations to charities by giving the toys to Harbour Women’s Refuge in North Shields.

Honorary chief executive of Angels of the North, Barbara Connors-Fowler, said: “There are a lot of laughing children living at the refuge so we took the opportunity to deliver Christmas toys to the staff for later distribution to the resident children.”

Angels of the North, in addition to donating toys to the refuge, has also donated children’s clothing, sheets, duvets and pillow cases.

Service manager Angela Bell said: “We aim to give women a lovely place to live in, which exceeds their expectations.

“The gifts that we receive from Angels of the North are greatly appreciated by everyone here.”
