A slimmer from the borough is celebrating after the New Year’s resolution she made in two years ago came true.
When Tracy Cairns made the decision to lose weight at the beginning of 2012, little did she know how successful she would be.
Now, thanks to the support of her local Slimming World group in Killingworth’s Bailey Green School, Tracy has lost almost seven stones in just 24 months.
The 42-year-old had struggled with her weight for years, and at her heaviest she weighed 17 stone and her health was very poor.
When she first joined her goal was to lose two stone to enable her to have varicose vein surgery.
Tracy said: “I was really nervous about walking into the group that first time, I figured there would be lots of new people joining the group as it was January and hoped I’d be able to blend into the background and not have to speak to anyone.
“I got such a warm welcome and I soon realised there was nothing to be worried about because we were all in the same boat – we all just wanted to lose weight.
“I honestly haven’t looked back since that day.
“It’s not a diet, just a healthy way of eating that I know I can keep up for the rest of my life.”
