Traffic chaos after car hits deer

COMMUTERS faced major disruption this morning (Wednesday) after a car hit a deer on the A19 southbound.

Traffic was backed up after a white Fiat Punto hit the deer on the stretch of road between Moor Farm Roundabout and Killingworth.

Police were called to the scene at 7am and closed the inside lane while they dealt with the driver of the car and the body of the animal.

Traffic queued beyond Moor Farm roundabout along the A19 and also up the A189 towards the Cramlington exit.

The car was eventually recovered and removed at 8.20am, with both lanes of the A19 re-opened.
