A state-of-the-art training facility is helping more plumbers take the plunge into the industry thanks to an investment.
Kier North Tyneside is inviting plumbers wanting to train for a full gas qualification to sign up at the facility after it secured £135,000 in funding from the Employer Ownership of Skills scheme.
The scheme, backed by the government, supports projects that develop skills, create jobs and drive enterprise and economic growth.
Repairs and maintenance provider Kier North Tyneside successfully applied for funding and is using its allocation to upskill local plumbers, helping them to expand the scope of their work by training for a full gas qualification.
Those enrolling on the course will receive 50 per cent funding up to a maximum of £900 and Kier North Tyneside expects 150 trainees to go through the programme over the next three years.
Kier regional director Mike Furze said: “Securing this funding is testament to the quality of training our centre provides and the reputation it has quickly built up since it was launched in 2011.
“This scheme will allow us to support local businesses by expanding the scope of their work and improving the skillset of their employees. It will also provide Kier North Tyneside with a well-trained and qualified local supply chain to service the 16,000 residential homes we provide repairs and maintenance to.”
