Trio to represent their country at European Championships

Three triathletes have been chosen to represent their country at a top championships next year.

The trio, from North Shields Poly Multi Sports group, will be among those representing Great Britain in the 2017 European Triathlon Championship in Dusseldorf next June.

Christine Burns, Kris Whitelaw and Paul Richardson all secured their places after qualifying events.

Christine, competing in the under 40 age category, said: “I knew I’d been picked instantly at the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon, when I crossed the line they announced my name.”

Kris, competing in the 40+ category, added: “I worked out I’d qualified just after the race. I felt relieved as I’d just missed out the week before. I’ve already qualified to compete in the World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico in September as well.”

Paul, also competing in the 40+ category, said: “I didn’t find out until I got home from the Strathclyde Sprint Triathlon in June that I’d qualified for the European Championships. I felt shocked and was totally buzzing for the next few days.”
