A donation is enabling a Wallsend resident to live more independently.

Michael Craigie has been presented with a mobility scooter and a suitcase ramp to help him get out and about to local shops and Wallsend High Street.

The items were handed over by Coun Gary Madden, chairman of the Victor Mann Trust.

Senior occupational therapist Anne Bloomfield suggested Mr Craigie submit an application to the Trust, set up by Reginald Mann, of Victor Products ,in 1955.

The board of trustees meets four times a year to consider applications from individuals or groups, who are aged 60 or over, on a low income or resident in the Wallsend area.

The trust also provides funding at Christmas for sheltered housing schemes, residential homes, clubs and associations in Wallsend.
