Patients suffering from cancer are receiving among the best care in the country, research has revealed.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust came sixth in a league table measuring patient experience across England, according to results released by Macmillan Cancer Support.
The league table compares the performance of hospitals based on measures of patients’ experiences while being treated in hospital such as whether their diagnosis and treatment options were explained clearly to them; whether they felt supported in their care; and whether they felt they were treated with respect.
Gill Starkey, lead cancer nurse at the trust, said: “We are delighted that once again we have been named among the best in the country for cancer patient experience.
“We are passionate about ensuring every one of our patients receives the highest quality of care and this latest accolade reflects the dedication of our teams.
“Like Macmillan, we believe passionately that patient experience is a vital component in a cancer patient’s care and we are committed to doing all we can for our patients and supporting them and their families every step of the way.”
Cancer services run by Northumbria Healthcare are consistently rated among the best in England, with teams providing specialist care to hundreds of patients in hospital, in the community and at home every day.
