Two more teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of a man near Whitley Bay Metro Station.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder while a 16-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Both are currently helping police with their enquiries after Lee Devlin, 40, of Charles Avenue, Whitley Bay, was found with head injuries next to a walkway near the town’s Metro station.
Two teenage men previously arrested – a 19-year-old on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH and an 18-year-old on suspicion of murder – have both been bailed pending further enquiries.
Mr Devlin travelled by Metro from Howdon on Friday, September 12, and arrived at Whitley Bay Metro station at 9.45pm. Police believe he was then outside the Metro station for a short time.
After being found just before 11pm, he was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officers are asking for help from the public to piece together what happened after 9.45pm and when he was found with injuries just before 11pm.
A post mortem examination has been carried out and the results are inconclusive.
