MACMILLAN Cancer Support launched one of their biggest fundraising events last week at a Tynemouth hotel.
The charity is urging everyone in North Tyneside to help raise a record-breaking £10.7m – by enjoying coffee and cake in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning..
It’s hoping hundreds of people take part in this year’s event to make it the biggest ever in the event’s 22-year history.
Speaking at the launch at the Grand Hotel in Tynemouth, Macmillan’s fundraising manager in North Tyneside, Kelly Knighting-Wykes said: “We’ve had a good response from people locally so far but we are hoping even more will get involved.
“The feedback we always get our hosts is that the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a really easy event to organise and it’s a great way of getting together with friends or having fun at work or school.
“Quite a lot of local businesses have said they’ve found their support for Macmillan struck a chord with customers and staff because so many people know someone who has had cancer.
“If anyone is interested in holding a coffee morning they can get in touch for a free fundraising pack.”
The official coffee morning day is September 28, but Macmillan say you can take part whenever suits you.
The charity is hoping to raise £90,000 from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in North Tyneside & Northumberland and expects more than 700 people to take part in the area.
The Grand Hotel is donating 20 per cent from the sale of their afternoon teas, scones and coffees and have been planning their event over the last two weeks.
Eddie Hastie, Owner of the Grand Hotel said: “I know the difference Macmillan makes to people locally so we support the charity whenever we can.”
